The Stanford University men's basketball program has been honored with the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award, underscoring its commitment to scholarly achievement alongside competitive success.
A Season Marked by On-Court Progress and Academic Distinction
During the previous academic year the Cardinal posted a 20-13 overall record, finishing 9-9 in ACC play and securing a berth in the College Basketball Crown. This marks the team's second consecutive postseason appearance, the first such back-to-back run since the 2012-15 seasons.
The award, which requires a program-wide GPA of at least 3.0 for the preceding year, recognized Stanford as one of only six Atlantic Coast Conference institutions to receive the honor, and the sole ACC school with more than three players named to the NABC Honors Court.
Seven Stanford athletes earned that distinction: AJ Rohosy, Aidan Cammann, Benny Gealer, Cameron Grant, Chisom Okpara, Jaylen Thompson and Ryan Agarwal, each maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Beyond the collective accolade, these seven players were individually highlighted on the NABC Honors Court, a testament to their sustained academic performance and athletic contribution.
Coach Kyle Smith praised the blend of talent and scholarship, noting that the team's academic distinction reflects the program's broader culture of excellence. The recognition also aligns with Stanford's tradition of producing scholar-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the hardwood.
