Critical Incident on First Practice Day
A high school football player from Lake Travis High School was rushed to Dell Children’s Medical Center in critical condition after experiencing a seizure during the opening day of practice.
The emergency unfolded on the first day of football season for Class 6A and 5A schools across Texas, prompting an immediate response from Travis County STARFlight, which airlifted the athlete to the medical facility with advanced life support.
Coach Hank Carter, who leads the Lake Travis program, publicly thanked the athletic staff, coaches and first responders for their swift actions, emphasizing that the player is now receiving the best possible medical care.
While the exact cause of the seizure remains undisclosed and no further updates have been released by Austin‑Travis County EMS, the incident has drawn attention to the intense physical demands placed on young athletes during preseason training.
