The State Amateur Baseball Tournament opened at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, South Dakota, gathering the region’s top Class B teams in a battle for a coveted semifinal berth.
Dell Rapids PBR secured a 3-1 victory over the Parkston Mudcats, highlighted by starter Brett Mogen’s complete game that yielded just one run and eleven strikeouts. Brayden Pankonen delivered an RBI single to put the PBR ahead, and Riley Calhoon’s sprint from second on a groundout sealed the win.
Angels Edge Past Cormorants
The Alexandria Angels also advanced, edging the Volga Cormorants 5-4 in a back-and-forth contest. Right-hander Alex Mizsak dominated the mound, tossing seven innings without allowing a run while surrendering only three hits. Meanwhile, Jordan Sagedahl, pitching for Volga, struck out nineteen batters, but the Angels’ late rally proved decisive.
