A Coach’s Vision Takes Flight
Stephanie Mack, inspired by her mentor Lurline Jones, assumed the head coaching role at Imhotep Charter High School and launched a girls flag football program in 2024 despite having no prior coaching experience.
The initiative began with an all‑female coaching staff and attracted roughly fifty interested players, establishing a foundation for a new athletic pathway at the school.
Early Lessons and Rapid Growth
In their inaugural season the team posted a 5‑2 record but fell short of the playoffs, a setback that proved instructive for the program’s development.
The following year saw a dramatic turnaround, with the squad finishing 10‑1 and capturing the division championship, signaling the effectiveness of Mack’s approach.
Quarterfinal Run and National Spotlight
This season the team compiled a 4‑3 record and advanced to the quarterfinals, while two of its players earned spots on the Philadelphia Eagles Big 33 Flag Football Team, bringing further visibility to the program.
Crystra Jenkins, one of those standout athletes, received both Big 33 honors and the Mini Max Award, underscoring the talent emerging from Imhotep’s flag football ranks.
Beyond the Field
Mack expresses pride in the growing interest among girls at her school and emphasizes that sports can open doors to scholarships and broader personal goals.
Her contributions were recognized when she was named the Philadelphia Eagles Girls Flag Football High School Coach of the Week, a testament to her impact on the community.
