Steve Baik named head coach of Calabasas High
The Calabasas High School athletic department announced that Steve Baik will assume the role of boys basketball head coach, taking over from longtime mentor Jon Palarz, who stepped down after the previous season.
Baik arrives with a résumé that includes leading the 2016 Chino Hills squad to a flawless 35‑0 record and a CIF‑State Open Division championship, a run that earned him Naismith National High School Coach of the Year, USA Today National Coach of the Year and CIF Coach of the Year honors.
His coaching journey also saw him guide Fairfax High to an L.A. City Section Championship in 2019, a victory that secured City Section Coach of the Year recognition.
Beyond those milestones, Baik’s teams have consistently ranked among the nation’s elite, drawing comparisons to the Ball family’s high‑profile programs and attracting attention from NBA prospects such as Lonzo, LaMelo and LiAngelo Ball.
The appointment signals a new chapter for Calabasas basketball, a program that has recently leaned on local talent and community support to compete at the Southern California level.
