Steve Mirizzi Returns to Lakota West as Head Baseball Coach

Alumni coach brings championship experience, family and longtime assistant Brett Treherne back to the program

Steve Mirizzi has been named the new head baseball coach at Lakota West High School, succeeding Brad Gschwind, who stepped down after serving as the program’s leader since 2019 to focus on family.

Mirizzi, a 2006 graduate of Lakota West, returns to his alma mater after a coaching career that includes stints at Princeton High School, Danville High School in Indiana, Indian Creek High School, and most recently Plainfield High School, where he guided the program to back‑to‑back winning seasons in 2025 and 2026.

A Homecoming for a Proven Builder

His overall record as a head coach stands at 118‑89, and his teams have captured multiple championships, underscoring a consistent ability to develop competitive programs and earning him nine seasons as a varsity head coach heading into next spring.

Austin Rhoads, Lakota West’s athletic director, expressed excitement about the appointment, noting Mirizzi’s deep roots in the community and his proven track record of building winning teams.

Mirizzi will return home with his wife Tiffany Mirizzi and their three children — Jackson, Mackenzie and Keegan — and plans to bring longtime assistant coach Brett Treherne onto the varsity staff.
