Sabins named NCBWA Coach of the Year
At a press conference held in Omaha during the NCAA College World Series, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association presented its 2026 Coach of the Year award to Steve Sabins, the head coach of West Virginia University’s baseball program.
Sabins assumed leadership of the WVU program in 2025 and quickly turned it into a contender, guiding the team to consecutive Super Regional appearances and securing the school’s inaugural appearance in the College World Series in 2026.

The accolade underscores the rapid ascent of a program that had long hovered outside the national conversation, highlighting the impact of Sabins’ arrival in 2025 and the sustained progress he has driven.
