The South Carolina Stingrays announced Tuesday that they have secured forward Josh Prokop and defenseman Luke Prokop for the 2026‑27 ECHL season, reuniting the pair who last skated together in the Western Hockey League.
A shared WHL pedigree
Josh Prokop, 26, arrives after a productive year with Herning Blue Fox in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen, where he posted 36 points in 47 games and helped the club capture a Danish championship while also contributing to a bronze‑medal finish at the IIHF Continental Cup. His résumé also includes a stint in the American Hockey League with the Bakersfield Condors, where he tallied three points in seven games, and a four‑year tenure at the University of Alberta, where he captained the Golden Bears and earned Second All‑Star Team honors.
More than just numbers
Luke Prokop, 24, comes to South Carolina after a 42‑game AHL spell with the Condors and a productive season with the Atlanta Gladiators, where he recorded 28 points. Drafted in the third round by the Nashville Predators in 2020, he previously helped the Edmonton Oil Kings and Seattle Thunderbirds win WHL titles and was recognized as the league’s Humanitarian of the Year.
A strategic move for the franchise
General manager Ian MacMillan framed the signings as a calculated step to blend youthful energy with veteran savvy, noting that the organization’s rich history of developing talent aligns with the Prokop brothers’ developmental paths. The moves also underscore the Stingrays’ ties to a broader hockey ecosystem that includes partnerships with clubs in Denmark, Canada and the United States, a network that spans from the Alberta Golden Bears to the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Fans can expect a renewed sense of chemistry as the brothers‑in‑spirit return to the ice after more than five years apart, a storyline that could energize the roster and deepen the team’s competitive edge as the new season approaches.
