The Stonehill Skyhawks began their 2026 field hockey campaign on August 28, traveling to Worcester, Massachusetts, where they faced Holy Cross in a tightly contested opener.
Despite a strong start that saw Karleigh Mirabile put Stonehill ahead early in the third quarter, the Skyhawks could not hold the lead, as Holy Cross rallied to knot the game at 1‑1 before Isabelle Morton's career‑high 19 saves kept the match alive into overtime.
Overtime Decides the Winner
In the extra period, Saskia Williams converted a penalty stroke to seal a 2‑1 victory for the Crusaders, ending Stonehill's shutout hopes and leaving the Skyhawks with a narrow defeat.
Morton's performance was a bright spot, as she turned aside 19 shots, including seven in the first half and eight in the fourth quarter, while Emma McGrory's assist on Mirabile's goal marked her fifth career helper.
The Skyhawks will look to rebound when they return to action on Friday, September 4 at 1 p.m., hosting Maine in their next scheduled contest.
