On a crisp August evening in Easton, Massachusetts, the Stonehill Skyhawks edged out Northeastern 1-0 in a tightly fought men’s soccer contest. The match unfolded under clear skies as both sides battled for early-season momentum.
A Late Goal Decides the Match
Freshman forward Killian Doherty struck in the dying seconds of the first half, slipping the ball past the Northeastern keeper to give Stonehill a slender lead. His second collegiate goal arrived with three seconds remaining, turning a scoreless deadlock into a 1-0 advantage.
Goalkeeper Felix van der Hagen, a sophomore, earned his first shutout of the season with seven saves, preserving the narrow lead and showcasing the defensive resilience that defined the Skyhawks' performance.
Despite Northeastern’s 11-2 corner kick advantage, the Skyhawks’ back line held firm, denying any conversion and keeping the score level until Doherty’s decisive strike.
The victory sets the stage for the team’s next test: a home clash against Merrimack on August 27 at 4 p.m., a game that will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
