The Stony Brook Roller Hockey Club captured the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association Division II championship on Tuesday, defeating Endicott College 7-3 in a decisive final that capped a remarkable season.
The Road to the Title
The team entered the national tournament riding a wave of momentum, having finished the regular season with a 22-2-3 record and earning the moniker of one of the hottest squads in Division II.
Pool play saw Stony Brook navigate victories over Cal Poly, the University of Colorado and Penn State, before dispatching Northeastern 7-3 in the quarterfinals and edging Illinois State 5-4 in a nail‑biting semifinal.
Key contributions came from senior defenseman Mark Doucet, who reflected on the team's bond, and goaltender Marcus Conti, whose performance earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Goaltender award.
The championship also highlighted individual accolades, with Michael Rocco, John Braccia and Conti all earning spots on the NCRHA Division II All‑Tournament First Team, while Rocco was named Most Valuable Player.
Club president Eli Simons, speaking after the victory, emphasized the collective effort behind the success, noting that the title represents years of dedication and the strong friendships that have defined the program.
Associate Director of Recreation and Wellness Thomas Lail praised the team's ability to balance academic rigor with athletic excellence, underscoring the university's pride in the achievement.
