Over the past several days, law enforcement agencies across the North Shore have responded to a cluster of property crimes that have left residents on edge. From stolen electronics to valuable vehicle components, the incidents span a geographic corridor that includes Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Skokie and surrounding villages.
Highlights of the reported incidents
In Wilmette, a laptop was reported missing from a private residence, while Winnetka saw a resident fall victim to a financial scam that resulted in a loss exceeding $5,000. Glencoe police arrested a suspect in connection with a theft at a local gas station, and Highland Park investigators recovered two stolen catalytic converters taken from work vehicles, alongside a missing basketball hoop.
Skokie experienced a more serious escalation when an aggravated assault involving a firearm was reported, prompting a swift arrest of an 18‑year‑old charged with burglary and related offenses. Additional car burglaries were documented between May 2 and May 6, further straining local resources.
Areas with no reported activity
In contrast, the villages of Northfield and Kenilworth reported no significant criminal activity during the same period, offering a brief respite amid the broader pattern of thefts and assaults.
