The University of South Carolina announced this week that Stuart Lake has been appointed Director of Program Development and Camp Coordinator for its baseball program, a move that brings a seasoned coach and former analyst back to the Gamecocks' fold.
A Proven Track Record
Lake’s résumé reads like a chronicle of sustained success. He served as the Gamecock Baseball’s Director of Program Development during the second half of the 2026 season and worked as an analyst on the Gamecock Sports Network from 2024 through mid‑2026. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for the Gamecocks from 1999‑2002 and again from 2017‑2022, and he headed the Charleston Southern program from 2009‑2016, guiding the Buccaneers to their first winning season in 18 years in 2014.
His coaching imprint extends beyond the college ranks. Lake mentored Tyler Thornburg, a pitcher who later became a Boston Red Sox player, and he has produced three SEC Player of the Year honorees, one Southern Conference Player of the Year, and two Golden Spikes Award Watch List standouts — one of whom captured the award. In total, 24 of his former student‑athletes have reached the Major Leagues.

The university hopes Lake’s blend of on‑field experience, analytical insight, and player development expertise will accelerate the program’s ascent.
