A Birthday Surprise Turns Sour
Jason Thurston and Emi Watanabe, college students from the San Francisco Bay Area, had saved for months to watch a World Cup match in Dallas, Texas, turning the trip into a birthday celebration for Emi.
They bought the tickets through StubHub and secured nonrefundable flights, an Airbnb reservation, and a rental car, only to learn two days before their departure that the seats had been withdrawn.
StubHub attributed the disappearance to glitches in the event organizer’s ticketing platform and offered the couple either a refund or replacement tickets.
The replacement tickets were priced higher and came with reduced quality, forcing the students to pay an additional amount to secure entry.
After a brief negotiation, the pair accepted the new tickets, grateful to still be part of the tournament despite the setbacks.
