The Summer Snaps flag football league, which began in Swampscott last summer, has nearly doubled in size for its second season, drawing a larger crowd of women eager to play.
A Season Defined by Community
More than 130 participants took the field during the opening week, braving heavy rain to kick off a schedule that meets every Thursday at Blocksidge Field through July, with the season culminating in a Super Bowl‑style championship night on the first Thursday of August.
Co‑founder Kristin Doerrer says the game‑night atmosphere is electric, describing the blend of competition, camaraderie, and the chance to meet new people as a key draw for participants.
Doerrer, who also plays in the league, highlights the post‑game dinners and friendly trash talk that extend the experience beyond the field, noting that players often recognize each other around town.
Friendship Off the Field
The defending champion team, the Salty Beaches, is preparing to defend its title, adding extra excitement as the league looks toward its August finale.
Beyond the sport, the league offers women a fun, competitive environment to stay active, build community, and forge connections that often spill over into everyday life.
