Sun Belt Announces 2026 Weekly Honorees
The Sun Belt Conference unveiled its first weekly recognitions for the 2026 women’s soccer season, spotlighting two standout players whose early performances have already reshaped expectations. Georgia State forward Aaliyah Faddoul and Georgia Southern defender Quinn Wilson were celebrated for their contributions in the opening two matches, setting a tone for the campaign.
Faddoul, a three‑time All‑Sun Belt First Team selection, opened the season with a penalty‑kick goal and an assist against UAB on August 12, then erupted for three goals in just 53 minutes against Truett McConnell, a display that included six shots on target from a total of eleven. Her nine points in the first two games underscored a potency that earned her a fourth career Offensive Player of the Week award, the first since September 2025.
Defensive Stability
Wilson, making her debut as Defensive Player of the Week, backstopped Georgia Southern to a 2‑0 start with seven saves and a 0.50 goals‑against average across matches versus North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University. Her timely interventions preserved clean sheets and provided the foundation for a team that has yet to concede a goal in the early going.
The recognition also marks a milestone for Georgia Southern, as Wilson becomes the program’s first Defensive Player of the Week since Claire Casey captured the honor in September 2024, highlighting the program’s resurgence under head coach …
Both athletes will look to carry their momentum into upcoming road tests in Ontario, Canada, and Beaufort, South Carolina, where the schedule will test the depth and resilience of their respective squads.
