The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced this week that it has renewed its partnership with ESPN, extending the agreement that will see a slate of football and basketball contests aired on ESPN’s television and digital platforms through the 2030‑31 sports seasons.
Broadcast Schedule and Coverage
Under the new deal, ESPN will showcase ten regular‑season football games each year across its linear channels and streaming services. The conference championship game will be televised on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2, while the finals of both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments are slated for a linear ESPN network. Earlier rounds of the basketball tournaments will be distributed through ESPN’s digital outlets.
In addition, four regular‑season men’s basketball games will be carried on ESPN’s flagship channels and its digital network, giving fans additional exposure for the league’s rising programs.
Historic Matchups and Extended Events
The conference also announced that it has prolonged its involvement in the MEAC/SWAC kickoff challenge and the Celebration Bowl through the 2032 season. The annual kickoff game, which pits the Mid‑Eastern Athletic Conference against the SWAC, traces its origins to 2005 when ESPN launched its ESPNU network. This year’s edition will feature Alabama A&M taking on Howard on August 29.
While the financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, the partnership underscores a continued commitment to bringing SWAC sports to a national audience. The league further solidified its digital footprint last year with the launch of its own streaming platform, offering fans direct access to games and supplemental content.
