Sweetwater Valley Little League opened its West Region tournament campaign on August 9, 2026 with a decisive 16‑4 victory over San Ramon Valley Little League, improving to nine straight wins since the start of section play.
Key Performances Drive the Win
Right‑hander Noah Kirk anchored the effort, delivering five solid innings in which he struck out six batters while allowing only two early runs. At the plate he went 2‑for‑3, driving in four runs and adding a double that landed just inside the center‑field wall.
The offensive onslaught was sparked by Grant Mielke’s first home run of the tournament, which cleared the fence and contributed three RBIs. Tempe Tran doubled twice and added three RBIs of his own, while Asher Giglio also doubled twice, walked once and scored three runs. Isaac Ramirez tripled, reached base four times and scored twice, underscoring the lineup’s depth.
Manager Steve Winnick noted that the team’s familiarity with the stadium and its playing surface gave them a mental edge, a factor he believes will be crucial as the tournament progresses.
Sweetwater Valley will next face Hawaii on Tuesday, August 10, at 6 p.m., before contesting the West Region championship game on Friday, August 12, also at 6 p.m. The team hopes to keep Kirk available for the championship appearance.
The victory also marked the first loss for San Ramon Valley since its district tournament, ending a streak that had kept them unbeaten in the regional circuit. A week earlier, Kirk’s curveball had fanned eight batters over 5 ⅓ innings against Encino, highlighting the versatility of his pitching arsenal.
