A Strategic Addition to Auburn's Coaching Roster
Sydney Carter, a former WNBA guard and champion of the 2011 Texas A&M national championship team, has officially joined the Auburn women's basketball staff as an assistant coach. Her arrival marks a significant infusion of playing experience and strategic insight into the program.
Carter's collegiate career at Texas A&M was distinguished by her defensive tenacity and leadership. She capped her senior season with the Miss Aggie Award and secured a place among the top ten in school history for steals, while also ranking tied for tenth in assists. As a three‑time team captain, she anchored a defense that helped the Aggies capture the 2011 national title.
Beyond college, Carter translated her game to the professional level, earning a spot on the Chicago Sky after being drafted and later playing abroad in Latvia and Israel. Her international exposure added a global perspective to her coaching philosophy, enriching her approach to player development.
Her coaching résumé includes a pivotal role at the University of Texas, where she contributed to back‑to‑back Final Four appearances and helped the Longhorns clinch their first SEC Tournament championship in the 2025‑26 season. In that capacity she served as player development coach and assistant recruiting coordinator, honing her ability to identify and nurture talent.
Carter's reputation as a recruiter and teacher precedes her. Colleagues such as head coach Gary Blair and longtime associate Vic Schaefer have praised her capacity to build lasting relationships with prospects, a skill that aligns perfectly with Auburn's ambition to elevate its competitive edge.
The addition of Carter also brings a network of connections that includes current roster members Madison Booker, Rori Harmon, Taylor Jones and Jordan Lee, as well as support staff like Larry Vickers.
