Sydney Mobley, a five‑star center ranked No. 3 in her position and No. 18 overall in the 2027 class, announced her commitment to Ohio State women's basketball on Tuesday. The prospect from Big Walnut High School in Sunbury, Ohio, will reclassify to the 2026 class and be eligible for the 2026‑27 season, adding a versatile frontcourt presence to the program.
A Family Connection in Columbus
Mobley is the cousin of Ohio State men's basketball star John Mobley Jr., a lineage that added a personal narrative to her recruitment. The connection to a former Buckeye gave the family an extra layer of familiarity with the university's culture and expectations.
During the recruitment process, Mobley made official visits to Illinois and Virginia before narrowing her choices. Ultimately, she selected Ohio State over a host of major programs that had courted her, including Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech.
A Versatile Frontcourt Addition
Standing 6‑foot‑2, Mobley can operate as a center or power forward, giving the Buckeyes flexibility in their offensive schemes. She will join a frontcourt that already features returning starters Elsa Lemmila and Kylee Kitts, forming a dynamic trio poised to reshape the team's interior game.
The incoming class will also welcome fellow freshmen Atlee Vanesko and Adriana Diaz, making three new players set to debut alongside the returning core. Guard play will be anchored by Jaloni Cambridge, Kennedy Cambridge, Ava Watson, and Bryn Martin, who together return six of the team's top seven scorers from last season.
Coaches highlighted the strategic fit of Mobley's skill set, noting that her ability to stretch the floor and protect the rim complements the existing frontcourt. The addition is expected to bolster the Buckeyes' depth as they aim for a strong campaign in the upcoming season.
