The upcoming December 19 showdown between Syracuse University and Providence College at Boston’s TD Garden will serve as a high‑profile stage for two of the nation’s most aggressive recruiters to showcase their 2027 targets.
A December Showdown in Boston
Coach Bryan Hodgson, a Western New York native who previously was linked to the Orange’s head coaching vacancy after Adrian Autry’s departure, is intensifying his pursuit of five‑star wing‑forward Moussa Kamissoko and point guard Nasir Anderson, both of whom have already visited multiple powerhouse programs.
Gerry McNamara, the former Syracuse basketball standout turned Siena success story, is equally determined to secure the same duo, hoping to bolster the Orange’s roster as they aim to make a splash before the new recruiting cycle.
While Kamissoko, currently enrolled at Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio and ranked No. 8 nationally by Rivals, has toured Syracuse, Providence, Florida State and Oklahoma State, Anderson — a five‑star point guard — has expressed interest in Syracuse but remains uncommitted, with planned visits to Providence and other schools.
Syracuse has already locked in a verbal commitment from three‑star wing Jack Donohue of Albany, N.Y., and also counts Ahmed Nur among its priority targets, while Providence continues to court the same elite prospects, underscoring the fierce competition that defines the 2027 recruiting landscape.
The December 19 contest, therefore, offers both programs a rare opportunity to evaluate their recruiting pitches in a live setting, with the outcome potentially influencing the decisions of top prospects like Kamissoko, Anderson and Nur as they weigh their futures.
