A New Chapter for the Orange
Syracuse University has appointed former player Tyus Battle as its first Director of Player Development, a role designed to centralize off‑court support for student‑athletes.
Battle, who contributed 1,647 points and earned All‑ACC honors twice during his collegiate career from 2016 to 2019, returns to the campus after professional stints in the G League and overseas.
A Broader Staff Expansion
The move coincides with the addition of several new assistants, including Ben Lee, Arinze Onuaku, Jamal Brunt and Ryan Daly, as well as veteran hires Ryan Beaury and Greg Fahey.
Long‑time staffer Gerry McNamara, along with the remaining member of Red Autry’s original staff, Peter Corisaniti, round out a coaching group that now represents the largest roster in program history.
In his new capacity, Battle will coordinate initiatives that aim to maximize each athlete’s potential, focusing on mental health, academic success and personal growth.
The expansion reflects a broader trend across top college basketball programs, where staff sizes continue to grow to meet the evolving demands of the sport.
