The dead period that had frozen Division I men's basketball recruiting for months finally lifted on August 19, unlocking a wave of campus visits and face‑to‑face contact between coaches and high school prospects.
With the fall evaluation window opening on September 9 and stretching through April 30, three additional dead periods will punctuate the schedule, giving coaches a concentrated stretch to assess talent in person.
Syracuse University has positioned itself at the center of that activity, targeting a handful of 2027 standouts — including Nasir Anderson, Ian Condon, Moussa Kamissoko, Ahmed Nur and Devin Cleveland — who are among the most coveted names on the Orange’s board.
Key Official Visits
Moussa Kamissoko is slated to arrive on campus from August 28 through August 30, while Ian Condon will follow with an official visit September 1‑2. J'Lon Lyons plans a September 11‑13 trip, and Devin Cleveland has said he wants to tour all of his finalists before committing.
Jack Donohue, a three‑star wing who toured the campus unofficially in late June, announced a verbal pledge to the Orange shortly thereafter, providing an early boost to the 2027 class.
In the 2028 cohort, the Orange have extended offers to more than a dozen prospects, among them Tai Bell, Kevin Wheatley Jr., Damian Mojica, Will Brunson, Rowan Phillips, Carter Smith and Michai White. Bell and White have expressed a willingness to visit if scholarships are extended, and Kingsley Rogers, who first heard from the staff on June 15, is now weighing a potential trip.
Coaching staff members will also run open‑gym sessions and conduct in‑home evaluations for priority recruits, a strategy that has already drawn the attention of J'Lon Lyons’s high‑school coach, who expects the Orange assistants to be present at his upcoming showcase.
The broader aim for Syracuse is to secure at least one of the marquee 2027 talents — Anderson, Condon, Kamissoko, Lyons, Nur or Cleveland — while simultaneously building momentum in the 2028 and future classes through targeted outreach in key markets.
As the recruiting calendar progresses, the Orange will continue to add offers for 2028 prospects and begin engaging with 2029 athletes, ensuring that the pipeline of talent remains robust well beyond the current cycle.
