A Tough Loss at SU Soccer Stadium
Syracuse University’s men’s soccer team fell 3-2 to New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon at the SU Soccer Stadium, dropping a tightly contested match that swung in the final minutes.
The Orange began strongly, holding a clean sheet for the first 45 minutes despite being a man down after a 10th‑minute red card, keeping the game level at 0‑0 heading into the break.
After the break, New Hampshire struck first in the 53rd minute, taking a 1‑0 lead before Syracuse answered with two quick goals. Kristjan Fortier converted a penalty in the 70th minute, and two minutes later Jordan Grey levelled the score.
The momentum shifted again when New Hampshire tied the game at 2‑2 in the 80th minute, only for Laurin Preuss to net the decisive goal in stoppage time, sealing a 3‑2 victory for the visitors.
Syracuse will look to rebound when they host Loyola at the same venue on Friday, August 30, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. All regular‑season home matches at SU Soccer Stadium are offered free of charge to fans.
The loss underscores the fine margins that define college soccer, where a single moment in the dying seconds can alter the narrative of an otherwise balanced contest.
