Syracuse University’s basketball program is intensifying its hunt for the next generation of talent, and the name at the top of its list is Munir Greig, a 6‑foot‑6 shooting guard/small forward who has already drawn comparisons to seasoned college stars.
A product of Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada, Greig capped his junior season with a 17‑8 record and a Class 5A state championship, earning player‑of‑the‑year honors from both MaxPreps and Gatorade. He averaged 15.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 48 % from the field, 40 % from three‑point range and 77 % from the free‑throw line.
Greig’s recent outings in the Under Armour Association league have only amplified the buzz. In one appearance at the Spooky Nook Champion Mill in Hamilton, Ohio, he posted 11 points and five rebounds, and in another he contributed 13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Those numbers have helped him maintain a top‑10 ranking among small forwards on the 247Sports Composite and a No. 27 spot on ESPN’s national board.
A Coaching Shift Fuels the Pursuit
The new Orange staff, overseen by assistant coach Gerry McNamara, is leveraging the momentum of a revamped recruiting philosophy that emphasizes high‑school prospects capable of immediate impact. McNamara’s group has already extended scholarship offers to Greig in December of last year, positioning Syracuse alongside programs such as Oklahoma State, Villanova, SMU, Mississippi State, UNLV, Virginia Tech and others vying for his commitment.
Beyond Greig, the Orange’s radar also includes King Gibson, Markus Kerr, RJ Moore, Nasir Anderson and Caleb Ourigou, each of whom could shape the next wave of talent for the program.
