A Strategic Recruit
Syracuse University Athletics announced the addition of Elif Çayir to its women's basketball roster for the 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores the program's expanding focus on global talent.
Çayir, a 5‑foot‑10 forward hailing from Ankara, Turkey, arrives after a stint with Nesibe Aydin in the Halkbank Women's Basketball Super League, where she appeared in 33 games, shot 40 percent from the field and contributed 44 rebounds and a dozen assists.
Building on Recent Success
The Orange concluded the 2025‑26 campaign with a 24‑9 record, tied for fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference and secured a berth in the 2026 NCAA Tournament before falling to Connecticut in the second round.
Head coach Felisha Legette‑Jack emphasized that the new class is designed to complement the return of Uche Izoje, the Nigerian center who earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 15.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.
A Blended Transfer Class
Alongside Çayir, the roster welcomes transfers Emely Rodriguez, Jaleesa Molina, Tyi Skinner and Sarah Rambus, while freshmen Destiny Robinson and Madison Howard bring New York state experience to the mix.
The coaching staff also retains key senior wing Shy Hawkins, whose defensive versatility and scoring have become cornerstones of the team's identity.
Looking Ahead
With a blend of international flair and home‑grown talent, Syracuse aims to contend for another NCAA Tournament appearance and push deeper into the bracket in the upcoming season.
