A dispute that began in the early hours of Wednesday at an apartment on North Railroad Street in Tamaqua escalated into a violent confrontation when Shannon M. Cara, 58, seized a metal baseball bat and struck his roommate.
Violent Assault and Immediate Escape
According to the police report, the victim managed to flee the scene despite sustaining a bleeding cut on his elbow and noticeable swelling above his right eye. He was quickly transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Coaldale for medical evaluation and care.
Officers arrived at the residence shortly after the incident was reported at approximately 12:22 a.m. Cara reportedly refused to answer the door or respond to phone calls from the responding officers, complicating the initial investigation.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
The alleged assault led to charges of simple assault and harassment filed through the office of Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer. Authorities have indicated that Cara will appear for a preliminary hearing on August 18, where further details of the case are expected to be addressed.
