Former South Carolina standout Ta’Niya Latson was waived by the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday, marking a swift end to a brief rookie chapter that began when she was selected in the second round of the 2026 WNBA Draft.
Coach Lynne Roberts had praised Latson’s shooting touch, quick transition and defensive grit, but the numbers spoke for themselves: 1.8 points and just one rebound in ten games.
The team’s plans were upended when star forward Kelsey Plum suffered an injury, forcing the Sparks to pivot toward experienced players and reshape their lineup.
In response, the franchise released Sania Feagin to clear a spot for guard Kiana Williams, a move that sent Feagin to a developmental contract with Portland.
Enter Kate Martin, a developmental guard who had already appeared in ten games for the Sparks, whose arrival opened the door for Latson’s possible return on a similar developmental agreement.
If Latson clears waivers, the Sparks could re‑sign her, effectively swapping her spot with Martin’s and reshaping the roster once more.
