Tarleton State’s baseball squad delivered a commanding 9‑0 victory over Sacramento State in the Western Athletic Conference quarterfinals, securing a spot in the semifinals.
A historic pitching performance
The Texans’ pitching staff turned in a flawless outing, surrendering just a single hit and posting the fewest runs allowed in a Division I conference tournament in program history.
Cort Lowry opened the game with a dominant stretch, followed by Jackson Elizondo and Ben Bosse, who combined to strike out nine batters and keep the opposition off balance.
Offensive firepower
Senior outfielder Jake Tatom powered the offense with his eighth home run of the season, driving in three runs and finishing with a .350 average for the series.
Sophomore infielder Cage McCloud added a timely sacrifice fly and a single that plated two more runs, finishing 2‑for‑3 with two RBIs.
Carson Lorch sparked the scoring with a leadoff single, while Sergio Guerra’s double in the third inning drove in two crucial runs. Raphaël Smeenk’s sacrifice fly capped a five‑run third inning.
Looking ahead
The Texans will meet California Baptist on Friday at 1 p.m. in the WAC semifinals, a matchup that will be streamed live on ESPN+ and carried on the Tarleton Sports Network.
Should Tarleton fall in that game, they are slated to contest a 9 p.m. CT consolation contest later that night for a berth in the championship.
The team’s dominant display has sparked optimism among fans and coaches alike, with many expecting a deep run in the tournament.
