Taurean Green Foundation Brings Free Basketball Camp and School Supplies to Gainesville Youth

Former NBA player Taurean Green hosts fourth annual Back 2 School Skills & Drills Camp, supporting families in North Central Florida

The Taurean Green Foundation, founded by former University of Florida star and NBA veteran Taurean Green, rolled out its fourth annual Back 2 School Skills & Drills Camp this week in Gainesville, Florida. The free event, which welcomed boys and girls between six and eleven, blended basketball drills with a suite of back‑to‑school resources.

A Community‑Focused Initiative

Campers spent mornings on the court, sharpening dribbling, shooting and defensive fundamentals under the guidance of local coaches. After the games, they received backpacks stocked with notebooks, pencils and other supplies, while volunteers handed out nutritious snacks and offered one‑on‑one mentorship sessions.

From Court to Classroom

Green, a two‑time national champion with the Gators and the 52nd overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, created the foundation to give children in North Central Florida the tools to succeed both athletically and academically. “I wanted to combine the energy of the game with the practical help families need as they head into a new school year,” he said in a statement.

Looking Ahead

Organizers say the camp will return next summer, aiming to expand its reach to neighboring counties and to incorporate additional life‑skill workshops. The foundation also plans to partner with local schools and businesses to broaden its support network for families across the region.
