Four-star cornerback Tavares Harrington, a standout from Mount Carmel in Chicago, announced his commitment to the University of Michigan on Wednesday, selecting the Wolverines over a final slate that included Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame and Ole Miss.
Ranked as the No. 190 overall prospect in the 2027 class and the No. 25 cornerback by 247Sports, Harrington brings a blend of size, speed and playmaking ability that has already drawn praise from recruiting analysts.
A Boost to Michigan’s Defensive Class
His pledge adds to a defensive-heavy haul that includes edge rusher Recarder Kitchen and fellow secondary piece Jakari Lipsey, both of whom have also committed to the program in recent weeks.
The Wolverines have capitalized on a busy May, securing nine verbal commitments, six of which are four-star athletes, and three of those standouts are slated to play on defense.
Coaches have emphasized a regional focus, targeting top talent from Illinois and Michigan, and Harrington’s addition underscores that strategy.
Mount Carmel’s recent dominance — going 14-0 last season while limiting opponents to just 17.4 points per game — has produced a pipeline of high‑level prospects, with Harrington becoming the second player from the school to join the Wolverines, following Quentin Burrell.
The commitment not only bolsters Michigan’s secondary but also signals a continued push to compete with traditional powerhouses for elite recruits in the Midwest.
