Tavis Honeycutt, a junior standout from Newberry, Florida, has been named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 2A Player of the Year, becoming the first player in Newberry High School history to earn the honor.
A Historic Junior Season
During his breakout season he topped the state with 16 home runs and 49 runs batted in, while batting .609 and slugging at 1.406. He added a .745 on‑base percentage, stole 21 bases and scored 49 runs, numbers that place him in the nation’s top ten for several offensive categories.
Commitment and Regional Significance
Honeycutt’s performance has attracted immediate attention from college recruiters, and he announced his commitment to the University of Florida, joining a growing list of local talents. He is the first player from the Gainesville area to stay in‑state since Wyatt Langford, a previous hometown star, reinforcing the region’s rising baseball pedigree.
Scott Hunt, vice president of scouting at Prep Baseball Report, praised Honeycutt’s “huge power potential,” noting that the junior’s combination of raw strength and refined hitting makes him a rare prospect in the 2026 class.
With his blend of power, speed and contact hitting, Honeycutt is expected to be a cornerstone for the Gators’ future lineups, and analysts project he could become one of the most impactful players in the nation over the next few seasons.
