Tavis Honeycutt Heads to Philadelphia for MLB Home Run Derby

Florida’s Class 2A Player of the Year will join the nation’s elite prospects at Citizens Bank Park

A Star is Born

Tavis Honeycutt, a junior at Newberry High School in Florida, has been crowned the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 2A Player of the Year after a breakout season that saw him top the state with 16 home runs and 49 runs batted in.

His slugging percentage of 1.406 over 64 at‑bats, a .609 batting average and a .745 on‑base rate underscore a rare blend of power and patience. He also stole 21 bases and finished among the nation’s top ten in several offensive categories, a performance that earned him a call‑up to the 2026 MLB‑USA Baseball High School Home Run Derby.

Derby Details

The derby will take place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, the same venue that will host the MLB Home Run Derby later that summer. The top two finishers from the high‑school event will meet head‑to‑head in a showdown that promises fireworks for baseball fans across the country.

Honeycutt, who has been training at a series of elite camps throughout May and June, described the invitation as “unreal” and said it validates months of hard work. He has already committed to the University of Florida Gators, a decision he made last fall.
