Taylor Black, who has been an assistant coach with the Florida Gators for several seasons, announced this week that he will be leaving the program to take on a new role at North Carolina State as its recruiting coordinator.
A Strategic Shift
Black’s connection to NC State dates back to his tenure there from 2014 through 2017, a period during which he helped lay groundwork that later contributed to Florida’s back‑to‑back appearances in the College World Series.
The Gators wrapped up the most recent campaign with a 41‑21 record and earned the No. 8 national seed, yet their run in the Gainesville Regional fell short, as they surrendered 43 runs and 49 hits across the tournament.
Head coach O’Sullivan acknowledged that the team’s performance showed inconsistencies, a factor that likely played into the decision to reshape the staff.
Looking Ahead
Black’s departure leaves the program with two staff positions to fill this offseason, prompting an early search for experienced recruiters who can keep the momentum alive.
The move highlights the fluid nature of college baseball coaching circles, where seasoned talent often shifts programs in pursuit of new challenges and the chance to shape the next generation of players.
