The Taylor Ducks have released their 2026 varsity football schedule, marking the start of a season that could define their postseason hopes.
Opening the Season
The schedule, announced on Tuesday, opens with a home game against Eastside Early College on Aug. 28, a team the Ducks defeated 46‑12 last year, giving them a strong start to the campaign.
District play begins on Sept. 25 when Taylor hosts Northeast Early College, a squad they shut out 62‑0 in 2025, and continues with road trips to Burnet and matches against Kerrville Tivy, LBJ, Comal Davenport, Fredericksburg and Travis.
Notable District Opponents
Among the most anticipated matchups are a home game against Canyon Lake on Oct. 2, where the Ducks hope to avenge a 63‑19 playoff loss, and a road test against LBJ on Oct. 16, a chance to reverse a 49‑14 defeat from the previous season.
The toughest challenge arrives on Oct. 23 when the Ducks travel to face Davenport, the only team in the district to finish the regular season undefeated in 2025 and a playoff deep‑runner, representing arguably the biggest test on the schedule.
Adding to the optimism, quarterback Johnny Guzman will return as a starter, providing continuity on offense, while head coach Rich Lucero emphasizes the importance of building on last season’s 5‑6 overall and 5‑1 district record.
With most starters back and a schedule that balances home‑field advantages against tough road tests, the Ducks are poised to make another postseason push and perhaps exceed the modest expectations set by their 2025 campaign.
