The Tazewell County school board voted last week to approve a suite of improvements for Graham High School’s football stadium, a move that promises to reshape the campus’s extracurricular landscape. For the first time, the school will be able to host Friday night football games on its own grounds, eliminating the need for travel to external venues.
Stadium Upgrades Set to Transform Graham High School
Under the new agreements, Musco lighting will install a full complement of stadium lights, while the district will purchase used bleachers from Grundy High School for $190,000. The combined project is projected to save the school system roughly $6 million compared with building new facilities from scratch.
Beyond football, the upgraded bleachers will allow Graham to host large outdoor events such as graduations, mirroring the capabilities of neighboring Tazewell and Richlands schools. This multifunctional use reflects a broader effort to maximize community resources within the county’s educational facilities.
While the exact timeline for installation remains undetermined, Superintendent Chris Stacy expressed optimism that the upgrades will be ready in time for the school’s inaugural home game. "We’re aiming to have everything in place before the first home game," Stacy said, noting that the board will continue to coordinate with contractors to keep the schedule on track.
