TCU Baseball’s midweek series against West Virginia ended in a split, with the Horned Frogs dropping the first contest before rallying to a 4-0 victory in the second.
First Game: A Narrow Defeat
The opening game took place on Thursday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m., when West Virginia struck first in the bottom of the second inning and held a 2-0 lead through the remainder of the contest.
Despite a solid effort, the Frogs could not answer the Mountaineers’ early scoring, resulting in a 0-2 final margin.
Second Game: Davis’ Masterclass
In the nightcap, senior right-hander Lance Davis delivered a complete game, scattering just three hits while striking out six batters and preserving a shutout.
TCU struck first in the top of the second when shortstop Preston Gamster launched a 418-foot home run, his fifth of the season, putting the Frogs ahead 1-0.
Third baseman Kyuss Gargett added a solo homer later in the inning, extending the lead to 2-0.
Designated hitter Chase Brunson was replaced by Noah Franco in the eighth inning, and Franco later contributed a home run of his own, pushing the advantage to 4-0.
A wild pitch in the same frame brought catcher Nolan Traeger across the plate, sealing the 4-0 victory and allowing Davis to exit the game with the lead intact.
Looking Forward
The two squads will meet again on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m., a rematch that could decide the series outcome.
