A Strategic Addition to the Horned Frogs
Texas Christian University announced the commitment of Spanish point guard Claudia Contell, a standout from Valencia who will join the program for the 2026‑27 season. Her arrival marks a significant bolstering of the backcourt as the Horned Frogs aim to maintain their upward trajectory in women's basketball.
Contell brings six years of professional experience in Spain, where she has been a consistent scorer and defender. In the 2025‑26 campaign she averaged 16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game for CB Gran Canaria, showcasing a blend of offensive firepower and tenacious defense.
A Career Defined by International Success
Her résumé includes a U20 European Championship MVP in 2022, leading Spain to a gold medal, plus a Eurocup title and two Spanish Super Cup victories. She also earned two FIBA medals with the senior national team, including a bronze at the 2023 U20 European Championships, underscoring her impact on the international stage.
TCU's coaching staff highlighted her playmaking ability and defensive intensity, noting that she will complement returning letter‑winners Clara Bielefeld and Clara Silva while adding depth to a backcourt that already features incoming freshmen such as Lanie Grant, Bella Hines and Avery Hjelmstad.
The addition of Contell underscores a broader recruiting strategy that saw the program secure seven new players during the spring cycle, completing a roster that blends veteran experience with fresh talent. The Horned Frogs' 2026‑27 class is poised to be one of the most competitive in the conference.
