Team Tennessee opened the competition with two defeats, losing 12‑0 to the host Louisiana squad and falling 10‑7 to South Carolina. A decisive victory over Virginia, 5‑4, on the second day kept their hopes alive, but the final standings were ultimately determined by a tiebreaker based on average runs allowed.
That tiebreaker proved unforgiving, separating the Tennessee side from the eight teams that advanced. The margin was razor‑thin — just 0.3 of a point — highlighting how close the squad came to a deeper run despite the early setbacks.
