A Hall of Fame Celebration
The basketball world will gather in October to celebrate the induction of Ted Owens into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, an honor that underscores his lasting influence on the game.
Owens spent 19 seasons at the helm of the University of Kansas, guiding the Jayhawks through an era that produced multiple conference titles and two Final Four appearances in 1971 and 1974. His 348‑182 record places him fourth on the program’s all‑time wins list, a testament to his consistency and strategic acumen.
Current Kansas coach Bill Self, who has built upon the foundation laid by Owens, praised the decision, calling the honor long overdue and emphasizing how Owens’ contributions shaped the culture of Kansas basketball.
The ceremony will take place in Kansas City, Missouri, bringing together former players, colleagues, and fans to reflect on a career that spanned nearly two decades of excellence. Joining Owens in the Class of 2026 are fellow inductees Jay Wright, Tubby Smith, Glen Rice, Danny Ainge, and Walt Hazzard, each of whom left an indelible mark on college basketball.
