Resignation Amid Broader Athletic Shifts at Regis High School
Teddy Joas announced his resignation as head coach of the Regis girls basketball team after completing six seasons that produced a 98-50 overall record. Under his guidance the program captured two Western Cloverbelt titles and added two regional championships, establishing a consistent winning culture.
Joas explained that family obligations and fundamental disagreements with the school's leadership prompted his departure. He noted that leadership had listened to non-factual information, which resulted in unnecessary changes to the basketball program and contributed to an environment where his continued presence was no longer viable.
During the most recent season the team finished with a 23-4 record and secured the Western Cloverbelt title with a 13-1 conference mark, underscoring the competitive foundation Joas built over his tenure.
The resignation is part of a series of significant adjustments within Regis High School athletics this summer. The Regis-Altoona wrestling team was placed on probation for alleged tampering with hydration testing, and Athletic Director Michael McHorney stepped down on June 30. Additionally, head volleyball coach Liz Nicolai left the school to accept the same position at Eau Claire Memorial.
In his public statement, Joas expressed gratitude to the Regis community, his assistant coaches, former players and their families for their unwavering support throughout his coaching career.
