Teen Arrested After Violent Confrontation with Deputies in Monroe County

The suspect used a baseball bat to assault a patrol car and was taken into custody following a high‑speed chase that spanned multiple jurisdictions.

An 18‑year‑old man from Ash Township found himself behind bars on Tuesday after a series of alarming actions that began with a family disturbance in the mobile‑home community of The Orchards.

A Multi‑Agency Response

Deputies, alerted by the suspect’s parents, narrowed their search to the vicinity of Interstate 75 and quickly learned that a vehicle matching the description had been used to ram a couple’s car multiple times.

When Deputy Brent Thomas attempted to pull the driver over, the motorist fled at high speed, prompting a chase that wound through the Village of Carleton before the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office called off the pursuit.

A South Rockwood police officer later spotted the vehicle returning to the mobile‑home park, where the suspect exited brandishing a baseball bat. He proceeded to smash the rear of the patrol car and threatened the deputy, who responded with a Taser to gain control.

During the arrest the suspect continued to assault the deputy, but the officer was treated for minor injuries and cleared to return to duty shortly thereafter.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough took the opportunity to thank the various agencies whose cooperation kept the situation from escalating further.
