An 18‑year‑old from Pennsylvania, Royce Moser, has been taken into custody after police say he killed his girlfriend, Karoline Heintz, a 19‑year‑old defender on the PennWest California women’s soccer team.
A Promising Career Cut Short
Investigators allege that Moser stabbed Heintz in the chest after hearing what he described as a ‘demon’ urging him to commit the act, a claim that has shocked both law enforcement and the campus community.
Moser and his mother, Rachel Moser, 56, now face a slew of charges that include murder, concealment of a corpse and destruction of evidence, the latter stemming from accusations that they drove the victim’s Jeep to a university parking lot, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to dispose of the murder weapon.
Heintz was slated to make her collegiate debut for the Vulcans just weeks later, a milestone that would have marked the culmination of a high‑school career spent defending the back line for a local youth club.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference issued a statement mourning the loss of a ‘bright and kind young woman,’ and announced that a moment of silence will be observed at all of its events through September 3, 2026, while a candlelight vigil is scheduled for Sunday, August 22, 2026.
