According to the complaint filed in early 2024, Medina suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage and other head injuries on November 20, 2023, while participating in a practice session that took place during Thanksgiving break. The lawsuit contends that no school employees were present to oversee the activity, violating safety rules established by the Georgia High School Athletic Association and the Gainesville City School System.
The suit named several school administrators, including Principal Jamie Green and Assistant Principal Stacia Dillin, as well as athletic staff, and alleged that both administrative and athletic personnel failed to adhere to required safety protocols. It also named trainer Ariauna Washington and a group of non‑district athletic trainers as remaining defendants.
While the family has secured a settlement with most of the named parties, the court filing indicates that the case will continue against the remaining defendants.
