Christian Myrick, a sophomore from Deer Park, New York, helped Team USA clinch gold at the USA Football Junior International Cup in Los Angeles, capping a whirlwind week that ended with a 50‑yard touchdown in the championship against Japan.
The victory marks the culmination of a journey that began with self‑doubt. Myrick had questioned whether he could earn a spot on the national roster, but his persistence paid off, and he now stands among the nation’s top flag football players for his age.
Family Legacy and Multisport Talent
Football runs in Myrick’s family. His older brother Matthew plays at Post University, while his father Rodney has a semi‑pro background. Even his sister Olivia once tackled the sport alongside him before they switched to flag football, a shared history that fuels his drive.
Coach Cody Ciolino, who guided Myrick at Deer Park High School, praised the teenager’s natural leadership and called his achievements remarkable for a 14‑year‑old. “He’s a leader on the field and in the locker room,” Ciolino said.
Beyond flag football, Myrick is a shooting guard on the basketball court and a competitive runner in track. He hopes to secure a larger role on those teams and is preparing for tryouts with the 17‑and‑under Team USA roster, aiming to add a varsity title and an Olympic gold medal to his collection of more than 40 championship rings.
Looking Ahead to College and the NFL
Myrick dreams of playing at Ohio State or LSU before eventually joining the New York Giants. He sees the upcoming varsity season as a stepping stone toward that goal, and he remains focused on expanding his athletic repertoire across sports.
