At just 19 years old, Bill Zonnon stepped onto the AHL rink for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and instantly caught the attention of coaches and teammates.
Early Impact
Despite limited practice time, Zonnon prepared meticulously, studying video archives and scouting reports to decode the team’s systems before his first professional game.
His debut featured the game-winning goal, and in six appearances he has already recorded three goals and an assist, a promising start for a youngster adjusting to the pro pace.
Adaptation Challenges
The speed and physicality of the AHL proved a steep learning curve, but Zonnon’s work ethic and natural strength — standing 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds — helped him compete against seasoned opponents.
Coach Kirk MacDonald praised the rookie’s rapid improvement, noting a visible boost in confidence each shift.
Future Focus
Looking ahead, Zonnon says his primary objective is to sharpen his skating and overall game, aiming to earn a spot in the NHL the way prospects such as Ben Kindel have done.
The young forward also hopes to continue contributing to the Penguins’ playoff push, knowing that every practice and game offers a chance to grow.
