What began as a routine post‑game handshake quickly escalated when Gerardo Valenzuela of FC Cincinnati lunged at Taha Habroune of the Crew with an aggressive challenge that earned him a straight red card for violent conduct.
The tension spilled into the tunnel leading to the teams’ locker rooms, where players from both sides had to be physically separated by their coaches, security personnel and police officers. Columbus defender Mohamed Farsi and team captain Sean Zawadzki were among those held back by teammates and staff.
Crew head coach Laurent Courtois later described the episode as “something stupid” that got the players heated, while MLS referee Allen Chapman oversaw the chaotic scene before order was restored.
