A Fresh Arm for the Bullpen
The college baseball transfer portal has been open for three weeks and will shut its doors in just over seven days, prompting programs across the country to finalize their roster moves. Tennessee seized the opportunity by adding its fourth transfer commit, a right‑handed pitcher, to shore up a bullpen that has been a focal point of rebuilding efforts.
The Volunteers are also saying goodbye to a handful of seniors whose eligibility has expired. Left‑handers Evan Blanco and Mark Hindy, along with outfielder Reese Chapman, will not return, leaving sizable holes in both the rotation and the lineup.
At the same time, several players who have already signaled their intent to move on are drawing attention from professional scouts. Right‑handers Tegan Kuhns and Brandon Arvidson are projected to hear their names called in the upcoming MLB Draft, while shortstop Manny Marin has also entered the portal, underscoring the volatility of the current market.
Returning talent provides a foundation for the upcoming season. Catcher Trent Grindlinger, right‑hander Landon Mack and left‑hander Cam Appenzeller are among those who will be back and expected to anchor the team's core.
The incoming transfer pool brings additional depth. Braydon Kersey, a two‑way player from Mercer, and Brody Trosclair from Northwestern State join the roster, while high‑school signees such as Cannon Grant, Cade Allen and Drew Christine add fresh arms to the mix.
Overall, the Volunteers' 2027 class reflects a blend of experienced returnees, strategic portal additions and promising fresh talent, positioning the program to remain competitive as the draft deadline approaches and the new season looms.
