The 2027 Tennessee Volunteers baseball roster is taking shape as Coach Josh Elander prepares for a competitive season. Eight new transfers have joined the program, adding depth across the lineup.
Infield Competition
Among the newcomers, Blake Grimmer is expected to anchor the middle of the order, while Levi Clark and Trent Grindlinger will also contribute. Infield additions Wyatt Hanoian and Travis Sanders are slated to compete for starting spots, with Chris Ramirez reportedly in the mix for shortstop. Hanoian is viewed as a strong candidate for second base, while Sanders could see time at third base, though his potential to sign professionally adds a layer of complexity.
Outfield Outlook
The outfield already has two secured spots with Blaine Brown and Andrew Duncan. Utility player Tyler Myatt is back and could move to the corner outfield if the staff decides to reshuffle the lineup, leaving one corner position still open.
Pitching Rotation
On the mound, Landon Mack and Cam Appenzeller return as core arms, but the third rotation slot remains unsettled. Transfer candidates Jake McCoy, Brody Trosclair and Parker Detmers are in the mix, though McCoy’s draft prospects add uncertainty. The competition for that final spot could extend right up to the start of the season.
Strategic Flexibility
If Sanders claims third base, first base and catcher duties may shift, potentially moving Grimmer to first and creating a shared role between Clark and Grindlinger at catcher and designated hitter. The coaching staff may need to get creative to accommodate all talent.
