Tennessee State University is set to shine a spotlight on its 2026 Hall of Fame class, culminating in a banquet scheduled for August 27. The tribute will honor a group of athletes whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the university’s sports legacy.
Among the inductees is Terry Blocker, a baseball standout whose collegiate career at the university was defined by consistency and speed. He earned three All‑Nashville selections and All‑America honors in 1981, and he posted batting averages of .367 as a freshman, .375 as a sophomore, and .402 as a senior.
Blocker’s Statistical Mastery
What truly set Blocker apart was his base‑running efficiency. He stole 112 of 117 attempted bases, a success rate of 95.7 percent, and compiled a career batting line that hovered above .360 each season.
His professional trajectory began when the New York Mets drafted him with the fourth overall pick in the 1981 MLB Draft. In his debut season with the Little Falls Mets, he hit .341 and launched seven home runs, signaling the promise that had made him a top prospect.
